USPS 2016 Promotions : : 5 Ways for Mailers to Save

The USPS has announced that their 2016 mailing promotions have been approved. As in previous years, these promotions provide opportunities for mailers to receive postal rate discounts.

Mailers will receive a 2% upfront discount on qualifying mailpieces, with the exception of the Earned Value Reply Mail Promotion that offers mailers either a $0.02 or $0.03 rebate credit on qualifying mailpieces. Get the low-down on each of the promotions below.

First-Class Mail Promotions

  1. Earned Value Reply Mail Promotion: (April-June 2016)

This promotion is designed to encourage mailers to promote First-Class Mail as a primary reply mechanism for their customers and to keep the CRM/BRM envelopes in their outgoing mail pieces. Mailers who register their MID information and use eligible Intelligent Mail® barcodes (IMbs) on their reply pieces will receive a postage credit for each mailpiece that is returned to the mailer during the promotion period. Registration: February 15 – March 31.

  1. Personalized Color Transpromo Promotion: (July-December 2016)

Mailers who use dynamic/variable color print for personalized trans-promotional marketing messages in their direct mail campaigns will be eligible for the postage discount explained above. Registration: June 15 - December 31, 2016.

First-Class Mail & Standard Mail Promotions

  1. Emerging and Advanced Technology/Video in Print Promotion: (March-August 2016)

The USPS continues to encourage mailers to integrate direct mail with technology, providing an interactive experience for customers. New for this year is the inclusion of Video in Print to generate opportunities that leverage new video technologies. Mailers that use at least one form of approved or advanced technologies will receive the postage discount. Registration: January 15 - August 31, 2016.

Standard Mail Promotions
  1. Tactile, Sensory & Interactive Mailpiece Engagement Promotion: (March-August 2016)

Advancements in paper, ink and interactive mailpiece elements provide marketers exciting new ways to enhance customer engagement. Mailers that demonstrate an innovative use of specialty inks, sensory elements, textural papers, or other dimensional elements will receive the discount. Registration: January 15 – August 31, 2016.

  1. Mobile Shopping Promotion: (July-December 2016)

Mailers using technology platforms such as Quick Response (QR) Codes, Snap Tags, Watermarks and other advanced technologies meet the criteria for this promotional discount. The goal is to launch the consumer from the mailpiece into an online shopping experience. This year’s promotion adds social media opportunities through “Buy It Now” features highlighted to support shopping during social media activities. Registration: May 15 - December 31, 2016.
